In a landmark move, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that annual income up to ₹12 lakh will be exempt from income tax under the new tax regime. For salaried taxpayers, this threshold extends to ₹12.75 lakh after considering the standard deduction of ₹75,000.
New Tax Slab Structure
- Income up to ₹4 lakh: Nil
- ₹4-8 lakh: 5%
- ₹8-12 lakh: 10%
- ₹12-16 lakh: 15%
- ₹16-20 lakh: 20%
- ₹20-24 lakh: 25%
- Above ₹24 lakh: 30%

- ₹12 lakh income: Tax saving of ₹80,000
- ₹18 lakh income: Tax saving of ₹70,000
