Haryana Transport Minister Anil Vij has announced that Haryana is studying the implementation of automated systems on major roads to assess vehicle fitness. The department has taken this technology-driven initiative to eliminate human intervention in vehicle testing, addressing concerns about inconsistent inspection standards. "We are considering this issue because often, when vehicles go for checking, some get rejected while others are selected, and we all know such practices occur," Vij stated during a media interaction at Nangal Chaudhary.
Buses Expansion and Modernization
Haryana's public transportation system, Minister Anil Vij revealed several key initiatives for Haryana Roadways as the High Power Purchase Committee has approved the acquisition of 550 new buses, that will add on to the state's public transport fleet. In line with environmental concerns the minister has announced a strategic push towards electric buses, recognizing their role in combating pollution and addressing the challenge of depleting fossil fuels. The department also plans to expand the electric bus services beyond their current urban operation and aims to create a more extensive and sustainable public transport services.
Vehicles Without Permits and Registration Numbers will be banned
On the regulatory front, Minister Vij has taken a firm stance on safety violations, implementing a zero-tolerance approach across the transport sector. He issued a strict warning to school vehicle operators, emphasizing the need for strict compliance with safety regulations. The recent action against a school in Kaithal serves as a concrete example of this enforcement drive. The minister has also imposed a complete ban on vehicles operating without proper registration and permits. To address the issue of unauthorized sleeper buses, he has scheduled a crucial meeting with Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) to strengthen enforcement measures.
Tackling Overloading Issues
Following a recent national meeting of transport ministers in Delhi, Vij outlined new measures to tackle the overloading issues. State now lans to install weight measurement gadgets on roads and minister call for transport corporations to establish self-regulatory systems. Anil Vij also emphasised on the working hours of the drivers to provide them enough rest period and prevent accidents. Anil Vij also warned about government intervention if self-regulation fails.
Natural Resources like Diesel-Petrol Are Slowly Depleting; focus Will Be on Electric Buses - Vij
The minister, returning from an energy ministers' meeting in Jaipur, highlighted the state's commitment to sustainable transport. The transport department has prioritized the expansion of electric buses in the state as a cornerstone of sustaible transport strategy. Electric buses will reduce the burden of depleting natural resources like diesel and petrol and also help to reduce vehicular pollution. Transport minister outlined comprehensive plans for expanding the electric bus network, demonstrating Haryana's commitment to embracing modern, environmentally conscious transportation solutions. This forward-looking approach aims to position Haryana as a leader in sustainable public transport among Indian states.
