A special investigation team (SIT) led by DSP Dalip Singh has questioned Congress MLA Rajbir Fartia in connection with the suicide of Diksha, a Dalit student from Fartia Bhima village. The victim was enrolled at Sharda College for Women in Singhani village, run by a society headed by the MLA.
The case has drawn widespread attention with multiple investigations running parallel:
- Police SIT investigating various angles
- Committee formed by Bhiwani DC conducting separate probe
- State Commission for Women chairperson Renu Bhatia launched investigation
- Haryana State Commission for Scheduled Castes involved
Bhiwani SP Nitish Agrawal stated that police are awaiting crucial college records regarding the victim's exam appearance and fee deposits. The family alleges that Diksha died by suicide after being barred from examinations and facing harassment from college officials, including a relative of the MLA.
Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has called for either a CBI investigation or a probe by a high court judge, emphasizing the need for an independent inquiry. "The BJP government should ensure a fair investigation to determine the true circumstances behind the incident. This can only be achieved if the case is handed over to the CBI or investigated by a high court judge, as the police operate under the state government," Hooda stated.
The MLA, who had previously claimed to offer free education to girls at the college, has alleged that his political opponents are attempting to tarnish his reputation through the case. The incident has also sparked broader discussions about women's safety and educational access in Haryana, with Hooda pointing out declining sex ratios despite government initiatives like 'Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao'.
