Social Justice Minister Krishna Kumar Bedi has taken immediate action in the case of Diksha, a student who died by suicide at her college in Loharu on December 25, 2023. The minister visited the grieving family and ordered the transfer of the local police station head to Police Lines, demonstrating the government's commitment to a fair investigation.

Arrests and Allegations

Police have arrested two key suspects - Hanuman, a College Management Committee member, and his son Rahul. The case gained attention after Diksha's father, Jagdish, filed a complaint on December 27, claiming his daughter faced harassment over unpaid college fees and was prevented from taking exams. This led to the registration of an abetment to suicide case against four individuals.

Commissions Launch Investigations

The case has prompted investigations by multiple state bodies. Dr. Ravindra Baliala, Chairperson of the Haryana State Commission for Scheduled Castes, visited both the college and the victim's family, announcing immediate financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh under the SC/ST Act. Similarly, Renu Bhatia, heading the State Women's Commission, has begun collecting evidence, including diary entries, call records, and surveillance footage.

Opposition's Stand

The case has taken a political turn with Congress MLA Rajbir Fartia, who is also a member of the society running the college, calling for a CBI investigation or inquiry by a sitting High Court judge. He revealed that while Diksha's family had paid only Rs 11,000 as admission fee when she enrolled in September 2022, the college had decided to waive the remaining fees, suggesting the issue might be more complex than just unpaid dues.

The government has promised additional financial support to the family, with Minister Bedi planning to submit a detailed report to the Chief Minister. He also criticized opposition parties for limiting their response to social media posts rather than providing concrete support to the family.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has also joined the calls for a high-level judicial inquiry, with a delegation led by Comrade Om Prakash visiting the victim's family. As investigations continue, both state authorities and opposition parties have emphasized the need for a thorough probe to uncover the complete truth behind this tragic incident.
