In a major crackdown on corruption, Haryana's Development and Panchayat Minister Krishan Lal Panwar has ordered the immediate suspension of five officials, including the Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) of Israna, for their involvement in a significant financial scandal involving public amenities.
Uncovering the Scam
The matter came to light when Harpal Malik, Chairman of Block Committee Israna, filed a complaint about irregularities in development works. The subsequent investigation revealed massive discrepancies in the procurement and installation of iron benches, hand pumps, and water coolers meant for public spaces. Initial estimates suggest the scam could amount to Rs 4 crore.
Officials Face Action
The suspended officials include BDPO Vivek Kumar, Junior Engineers Brahmdatt and Vinod, Assistant Satpal, and Accountant Dinesh. In a surprising turn of events, the accused officials have admitted to misappropriating Rs 23.85 lakh and attempted to cover up their actions by hastily arranging the missing items through a third party. Minister Panwar personally intervened to stop this cover-up attempt.
Recovery and Zero Tolerance Policy
The Deputy Commissioner has ordered the immediate recovery of Rs 23.85 lakh through the CEO of Zila Parishad. Minister Panwar emphasized the department's zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, stating that this action demonstrates the government's commitment to maintaining transparency in public works. He assured that future cases of corruption would face similar strict action.
