In a shocking case of employment fraud from Gurugram's Udyog Vihar, scammers have allegedly duped a woman of Rs 26 lakh by promising her an Assistant Professor position at Delhi University (DU). The case highlights the growing job scams and the vulnerability of employment seekers.
The Elaborate Deception
The victim, Pooja Yadav, had originally applied for an Assistant Professor position at Delhi University in 2023 but couldn't clear the interview held on October 7. The accused, Omkar Yadav from Khedki Baghonki village, approached her brother Ankur Rao at their residence in Dundahera village on October 15, claiming strong connections with DU's senior officials. He introduced Ankur to Sandeep Kumar from Sampla, Rohtak, who initially demanded Rs 35 lakh for securing the position, later settling for Rs 32 lakh.
Timeline of Fraudulent Activities
The scammers framed an elaborate scheme involving multiple fake emails seemingly from DU's official email address. These communications included interview schedules, postponement notices, and even an appointment letter. The fraudsters managed to extract Rs 26 lakh through multiple transactions while continuously postponing various verification processes. The truth emerged when Pooja and her brother visited the university for document verification on April 4, only to discover no such process was scheduled.
Police Investigation
When confronted about returning the money, the accused initially stalled with excuses about job placement and later started issuing death threats to Ankur Rao. The police have registered a case based on Ankur's complaint and launched an investigation into the possible collusion between the fraudsters and university employees who allegedly assisted in sending fake official emails.
