Haryana Becomes First State to Guarantee MSP for 24 Crops

In a landmark decision ahead of local body elections, Haryana government implements MSP purchase guarantee for 24 crops, including 10 new additions, while Punjab farmers continue their protest against central government.

Haryana has become the first state in India by extending Minimum Support Price (MSP) coverage to 24 crops. The notification to extend MSP came at a very significant time when Punjab 's farmers are protesting against the Central Government over various agricultural issues.

New Additions to MSP List

The government has added ten new crops to the existing list of 14 that were already under MSP protection. The new additions include:

  • Ragi (Finger Millet)
  • Soybean
  • Black Sesame
  • Safflower
  • Barley
  • Maize
  • Sorghum
  • Jute 
  • Copra
  • Green Gram 

 

Existing MSP Coverage

Prior to this expansion, the state government was already providing MSP coverage for fourteen crops including:

  • Wheat
  • Rice
  • Mustard
  • Barley
  • Chickpea
  • Paddy
  • Corn
  • Pearl Millet 
  • Cotton 
  • Sunflower
  • Moong
  • Groundnut
  • Pigeon Pea
  • Black Gram
