In a significant turn of events, renowned farmer leader, Rakesh Tikait has issued a powerful and strict message to the protesting farmers. Tikait called for solidarity and warned that division will lead to their downfall. Speaking in front of media persons at Nanaksar Gurdwara in Singhra village, Tikait highlighted the critical need for collective action in the ongoing farmers movement.
Tikait compared the current protest to facing a 66,000 W current while stating a stark warning "Bantoge to Lutoge" which means if you divide you will lose, highlighting the importance of unified approach. He suggests that only through collective efforts farmers can overcome the challenges being posed by government policies.
The farmer leader raised other significant points during his interaction with media. He expressed deep concern about the deteriorating health of farmer leader, Jagjit Singh Dallewal , who has been on an indefinite fast since November 26, Tikait urgently called for dialogue between government and farmer organization.
On the other hand, Tikait took a direct aim at farmer leader, Gurnam Singh Charuni by suggesting that his political ambitions should not distract from the core agriculture issues. He shared his own experience of stepping back from electoral politics and advised same to Charuni to focus on farmers' concerns rather than election campaigns.
Tikait also criticized the current situation in Punjab noting that the agitation is primarily benefiting Punjab farmers and creating challenges for local residence. Tikait predicted the farmers movement could continue for another 4 to 5 months highlighting the persistent nature of the agriculture protest.
The farmer leader did not hold back his words and confronted political opposition, condemning controversial remarks by BJP Rajya Sabha, MP Ram Chandra Jangra against farmers. He demanded an apology and called for the MP to provide proof for his statements. Additionally, he criticizes Uttar Pradesh government for its failure to distribute payments to sugarcane farmers and its reluctance to increase sugarcane prices.
The call for unity comes at a very crucial time memorialized by Tikait's visit to pay tribute to Baba Ram Singh, a spiritual preacher who tragically committed suicide over farmers plight at Singhu Border in December 2020.
