The Shambhu border once again became a battleground of confrontation as Punjab farmers made another aggressive attempt to break through Haryana's security cordons, leading to a dramatic standoff that highlighted the ongoing agricultural crisis.

Intense Security Measures

Haryana authorities implemented comprehensive security strategies with a multi-layered approach. The police and paramilitary forces deployed extensive security arrangements, including cemented barricades, strategic placement of roadways buses, barbed wire fencing, and water cannons to prevent farmers from entering the state.

Aggressive Protest Tactics

The farmers from the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha demonstrated remarkable determination to reach Delhi. They attempted to pull down makeshift fences, used chains to break barricades, climbed security structures, and created significant disruption at the Shambhu border crossing.

Official Response

Senior officials maintained a firm and resolute stance throughout the confrontation. Ambala SP Surinder Singh Bhoria reported that five policemen suffered minor injuries during the protest. The authorities deployed low-intensity teargas and pepper spray while repeatedly warning protesters to obtain necessary permissions from Delhi police before proceeding.

The Haryana government took proactive preventive measures to manage the situation. They suspended mobile internet services in 11 villages, imposed Section 163 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and positioned senior officials including IG Sibash Kabiraj to monitor the developing scenario closely.

Ongoing Challenges

The interstate border has remained sealed since February, reflecting the prolonged standoff between farmers and government authorities. The core demands continue to include legal minimum support price (MSP) guarantee, debt relief, and comprehensive agricultural sector reforms that have yet to find a mutually acceptable resolution.

The border closure significantly impacted interstate travel, with commuters forced to take alternative routes and experiencing substantial disruptions. Many travelers were unaware of the border closure, requiring police guidance to find alternative paths.
