The Haryana government has executed a comprehensive administrative transfer exercise, repositioning 44 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers in a late-night order on Sunday. This substantial reorganization comes in the wake of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government's swearing-in on October 17, marking a pivotal moment in the state's bureaucratic landscape.

Key Appointments and Significant Shifts

Among the most notable appointments is Sumita Misra, a 1990-batch IAS officer, who has been designated as the new Home Secretary. She will simultaneously serve as Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) for Home, Jails, and Criminal Investigation Department (CID), bringing her extensive administrative experience to these critical portfolios.

The transfer list includes several strategic repositioning of senior bureaucrats. Anurag Rastogi, another 1990-batch officer, has been appointed as Financial Commissioner, Revenue, while continuing to hold the Additional Chief Secretary position for the Finance Department. Notably, Ashok Khemka, a 1991-batch officer known for his reputation, has been positioned as ACS for the Transport Department.

Multidepartmental Responsibilities

The transfers reflect a trend of officers being assigned multiple responsibilities. Sudhir Rajpal, ACS Health, has been additionally entrusted with Medical Education, Research, and Ayush Departments. Anand Mohan Sharan, ACS Forests and Wildlife, will now also oversee the Food and Civil Supplies Department.

Other significant appointments include:

The administrative reshuffle demonstrates the new government's intent to streamline governance, optimize administrative efficiency, and potentially align bureaucratic leadership with its political vision.
