Reinstatement of IAS Officer Vijay Singh Dahiya in Haryana Corruption Case

IAS Vijay Singh Dahiya

Government Reversal in Bribery Case

The Haryana government has revoked the suspension of IAS officer Vijay Dahiya, who was implicated in a bribery case related to the Haryana Skill Development Corporation. The government issued an order in this regard, a month after Dahiya was apprehended by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).

Bribery Allegations and Poonam Chopra's Arrest

Dahiya faced accusations of accepting a bribe of five lakh rupees during his tenure at the Haryana Skill Development Corporation. The ACB had previously arrested Poonam Chopra, accused of offering the bribe, and recovered the alleged amount from her possession.

Whistleblower's Complaint and ACB's Revelation

The entire case unfolded when whistleblower Rinku Manchanda filed a complaint with the bureau, leading to the arrest of Poonam Chopra. The complaint detailed Dahiya's alleged involvement in corrupt practices, prompting the ACB to take swift action.

Report Submission and Lack of Government Posting

Despite Dahiya submitting a report to the Chief Secretary's office three months after the case was filed, the government did not assign him any new posting. The ACB had initiated proceedings against Dahiya and another official of the Haryana Skill Development Corporation on April 21.

Legal Challenges and High Court Denial

In an attempt to secure relief, Dahiya filed an anticipatory bail petition in both the Panchkula District Court and the Punjab Haryana High Court. However, both pleas were dismissed, leaving the officer without any immediate legal reprieve.

Uncertainty Surrounding Government's Position

While the government has reinstated Dahiya, there is still ambiguity regarding the official's status within the government. Dahiya had returned to duty two months ago, but the lack of a new posting and a clear government stance adds complexity to the ongoing situation.

Ongoing Legal Battle

As the legal proceedings continue, the Haryana Chief Minister's Office stated that the government is closely monitoring the case. Depending on the necessity, further decisions regarding Dahiya's posting will be made.
