8 Family Members Die in Tragic Car Accident in Kaithal

In a heart-wrenching incident that has shaken the Kaithal district of Haryana, eight members of a single family lost their lives when their car plunged into a canal. The accident occurred on Saturday, October 12, 2024, near Mundri village, as reported by The Haryana Story.

The Tragic Journey

The ill-fated journey began in Deeg village, where nine family members set out to attend Dussehra prayers at the Ravidas dera in Guhna village. Little did they know that this festive trip would turn into a nightmare.

The car, driven by 40-year-old Karamjeet (also known as Kala), was carrying his wife Darshna (38), mother Chameli Devi (68), sister-in-law Sukhwinder (38), daughters Fiza (20), Vandana (15), and Komal (17), and nieces Ria (13) and Ramneet (7). 

The Accident

At around 8:30 AM, tragedy struck. Karamjeet lost control of the vehicle, causing it to plunge into the canal near Mundri village. Local villagers quickly rushed to help, managing to pull out the car after considerable effort. 

In a twist of fate, Karamjeet survived the accident. However, seven family members were initially found dead after being rushed to nearby hospitals. Later in the evening, the body of 17-year-old Komal was recovered from the canal, bringing the death toll to eight. 

Investigation and Response 

Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kalia stated that all angles of the accident are being investigated, including the possibility of brake failure. "We are thoroughly examining all aspects of the incident to determine whether it was an accident or due to a technical issue," SP Kalia told.

The tragedy has drawn attention from high-level officials. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Haryana's caretaker Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini expressed their condolences on social media. Local leaders, including Hisar MP Kumari Selja and newly elected Kaithal MLA Aditya Surjewala, also conveyed their sympathies to the bereaved family. 

Community in Mourning

The news of the accident has cast a pall of gloom over Deeg village. Villagers have come together in collective mourning, offering support to Karamjeet, who is reported to be in deep shock after losing his entire family.
