Vinesh Phogat Honored with Gold Medal by Sarv Khap Panchayat

Vinesh Phogat, the renowned wrestler from Haryana, has been honored with a gold medal by the Sarv Khap Panchayat following her performance at the Paris Olympics. This marks the first time the Khap council has awarded such a medal to any individual. 

The ceremony, held at Nandal Bhawan, saw representatives from various Khaps across Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi coming together to recognize Phogat's achievements. The Sarv Khap Panchayat presented her with a pure gold medal as a symbol of their respect and admiration. 

During the event, Phogat expressed her gratitude for the honor, stating, "This recognition is on my head." She also hinted at possible injustice during the Olympics, saying, "Whether there was a conspiracy or injustice at the Olympics, I will reveal the truth when the time comes." 

Addressing the gathering, Phogat emphasized that her fight for the dignity of girls would continue. "This is not the end of the battle, but the beginning," she declared, indicating her commitment to the cause of women's empowerment in sports.

When asked about her return to wrestling, Phogat remained non-committal. "I haven't made any decision yet," she told reporters, leaving her future in the sport uncertain.

The Sarv Khap Panchayat officials, in their speech, criticized the government for not advocating enough for Phogat. They stated that while the government may have failed her, the Khap recognizes and honors her achievements. 

This unique recognition by the Sarv Khap Panchayat highlights the cultural significance of wrestling in Haryana and the community's support for its athletes. It also underscores the ongoing discussions about fair treatment of athletes in international competitions.
