A shocking case of sexual assault has come to light in Faridabad, where a 23-year-old woman shooter participating in a competition at the Tilpat Shooting Range was allegedly raped in a hotel by her friend’s acquaintance. The police have arrested three accused, including the victim’s female friend, and sent them to judicial custody.

According to the police, the victim, a resident of Bhiwani, had arrived in Faridabad on Tuesday along with her friend to participate in the shooting competition. After the event concluded on Wednesday evening, the friend contacted Gaurav, an acquaintance living in Faridabad, requesting him to drop them at the metro station.

Gaurav reached the spot with his friend Satendra around half an hour later. It was then decided that all four would stay overnight in Faridabad and return to Bhiwani the next day. They booked two rooms at a hotel in the Sarai Khwaja area and later gathered in one room for a party.

In her complaint, the victim stated that around 9 pm, her friend went downstairs with Gaurav to fetch some items. During this time, Satendra, who was alone with her in the room, allegedly raped her.

The shooter further told police that when her friend returned, she went to another room and informed one of her close friends over the phone about the incident. Showing presence of mind, she then locked her friend and the two men inside the room, stepped out, and called the police.

A police team reached the hotel immediately and took all three accused into custody. “The accused were produced before a city court and have been sent to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway,” said Inspector Rakesh Kumar, SHO of Sarai Khwaja police station.

Police officials are also questioning hotel staff and examining CCTV footage to establish the sequence of events. Preliminary investigation suggests that the crime involved misuse of trust and was pre-planned.

Such incidents raised serious concerns regarding the safety of women athletes travelling for competitions and home they can trust during their journeys.
