Roads covered in dense fog

Haryana is currently in the clutches of a severe cold wave, with the Meteorological Department issuing a red alert for 10 districts in the state due to thick fog. Visibility has dropped to 10 meters in these districts, causing disruptions. Over the next 4-5 days, dry weather is expected to prevail in Haryana, with no significant changes in minimum temperatures but an increase in daytime chill.

Ambala recorded 10 meters, Chandigarh 15 meters, Sirsa 50 meters, and Karnal 60 meters of visibility due to the dense fog. The fog has persisted beyond 8 AM, causing inconvenience in daily activities. The Weather Department predicts unfavorable weather conditions in Haryana until the New Year, with no relief from the ongoing foggy conditions.

The impact of fog is evident in the increasing number of road accidents in Haryana, accounting for approximately 35% of accidents in the state. The continuous alerts issued by the Chandigarh Meteorological Department emphasize the severity of the situation, urging caution on the roads.

The cold wave brings possibilities of various illnesses, including flu, with symptoms such as runny nose and nosebleeds. Prolonged exposure to cold temperatures can exacerbate health issues. The public is advised to take precautions and seek medical attention if experiencing discomfort.

The Meteorological Department has released guidelines for coping with the cold wave, emphasizing the importance of moisturizing the skin regularly, consuming vitamin C-rich fruits and vegetables, avoiding unnecessary travel, and keeping the body dry. The guide also recommends wearing waterproof shoes, gradually warming parts of the body affected by the cold, and ensuring proper ventilation while using heaters to prevent respiratory issues.
