In a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Haryana, Congress MP Kumari Selja has painted a grim picture of the state's law and order situation. The All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary and Sirsa MP presented alarming crime statistics for the first half of 2024, accusing the government of allowing a "jungle raj" to prevail in the state.

Shocking Crime Statistics

According to Selja, in just 182 days between January and June 2024, Haryana witnessed:

  • 465 murders
  • 720 rapes
  • 813 kidnappings
  • 80 dowry deaths
  • 709 cases of molestation

The MP highlighted that cities like Bhiwani, Faridabad, Gurugram, Hisar, Karnal, Palwal, Panipat, Rohtak, Sonipat, and Yamunanagar have seen multiple murders in quick succession.

"These numbers clearly show the state of law and order in Haryana," Selja stated. "The government should be ashamed of these figures."

Unsafe for Women and Children

Selja expressed particular concern about the safety of women and children in the state. She revealed that in the past six months, the police registered 704 cases under sections 4 and 6 of the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act.

"Even children and young girls are not safe in the state," Selja lamented. She provided district-wise breakdowns of POCSO cases, with Faridabad (93 cases) and Panipat (68 cases) showing the highest numbers.

Call for Action and Accountability

The Congress leader didn't mince words in her criticism of the BJP government. "On one hand, the state government claims good governance, but on the other hand, criminals are running amok," she said. Selja accused the police of sitting idle and the government of turning a blind eye to the situation.

She called for concrete action beyond "false promises" to ensure women's safety. Selja also emphasized that a government unable to protect its citizens has no right to remain in power.

The MP concluded by stating that if Congress comes to power in the state, they will prioritize the safety of the common people and women.

This bold statement from a senior Congress leader has brought the issue of crime and public safety in Haryana into sharp focus. It remains to be seen how the BJP government will respond to these allegations and what steps, if any, will be taken to address the rising crime rates in the state.
