Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to launch organisational restructuring in Haryana on June 4 after the success of party revamping in Gujarat. The initiative comes under the Sangathan Srujan Abhiyan, aimed at rebuilding the faction-ridden state unit that has lacked district-level organization for over eleven years.
Haryana general secretary BK Hariprasad confirmed Gandhi's day-long visit will include two crucial meetings. The first session involves seventeen senior leaders, including former chief ministers, PCC presidents, Congress Legislature Party leaders, AICC office-bearers, and three all-India chairpersons. These leaders will provide feedback on party reorganization and ground-level political dynamics.
The second meeting will engage twenty-two AICC observers and ninety PCC observers, focusing on district chief selection processes. Unlike previous appointments made through consultation between state chiefs and legislature party leaders, the new system requires observers to invite applications, conduct field consultations, and prepare district-wise panels for high command approval.
This restructing and revamping exercise will go on for one month which will be followed up by distrcit chief appointments and also state chief selection. The restructuring addresses long-standing organizational weaknesses that Congress leaders believe should have occurred before the 2024 Assembly elections.
Despite winning thirty-seven Assembly seats and falling short of government formation, Congress has struggled with internal issues. Seven months post-election, the party remains without a Leader of Opposition, despite senior observer recommendations. State chief Udai Bhan has retained his position contrary to many leaders' expectations.
Several MLAs have expressed desire to meet Gandhi, conveying concerns about leadership neglect post-election. Some legislators have reportedly attended Chief Minister's programs, highlighting internal dissatisfaction. However, Hariprasad clarified that MLAs seeking meetings must request appointments, as Gandhi's visit focuses exclusively on organizational matters.
The restructuring will enhance Congress 's grassroot strength in Haryana and address factional divisions that have hindered Congress 's victory in 2024 elections.
