The defection of Kiran Choudhry and her daughter Shruti from the Congress to the BJP has sent shockwaves through the party's ranks in Haryana. Amid the ongoing controversy, senior Congress leader and Sirsa MP Kumari Selja has expressed her disappointment over the treatment meted out to Choudhry, further fueling speculations of internal tensions within the party's state unit.

Selja Laments 'Injustice' to Choudhry

Expressing her disappointment, Selja stated that Choudhry's daughter Shruti should have been given a ticket for the Lok Sabha elections. "We wished she had stayed in the Congress. She faced extreme injustice. It would have been good if we had worked together. I wish her well in her new political journey," Selja told the media after a meeting with party workers.

Hints at Deeper Rifts within Haryana Congress

Selja's remarks also hinted at broader rifts within the Haryana Congress, suggesting that the party's handling of loyal workers and ticket distribution has been a contentious issue. She cited the example of Birender Singh, who had returned to the Congress but faced "injustice," stating, "A party becomes strong only when everyone works together. On the one hand, new people are being inducted into the party, while on the other hand, pillars of the party are being ignored."

In simple terms, Kumari Selja's statements have shed light on the simmering tensions within the Haryana Congress. Her expression of disappointment over the treatment meted out to Kiran Choudhry and her daughter Shruti, coupled with her remarks about the party's handling of loyal workers, suggests that the defection may be symptomatic of deeper rifts within the state unit. As the Congress grapples with the fallout of Choudhry's exit, Selja's comments underscore the need for the party to address internal grievances and ensure a united front ahead of crucial elections.
