Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the former Chief Minister of Haryana and current leader of the opposition, has strongly criticized the BJP government for failing to help poor, Scheduled Caste (SC), and Other Backward Class (OBC) families. He accused the BJP of stopping a scheme that provided free plots of land measuring 100 square yards to these underprivileged communities.
Hooda was speaking to the media in Bishan village, Jhajjar district, where he had gone to offer condolences on the demise of Ramphal Singh Suhag, the father of former Army Chief Dalbir Suhag. After paying his respects, Hooda attended several social programs in the area.
When asked about the recent Lok Sabha elections, Hooda confidently stated that the results have ensured the BJP's defeat in the upcoming Vidhan Sabha (State Assembly) elections. He said, "The electoral debacle has reduced the BJP's seats to half in the Lok Sabha, but they will be completely wiped out ('saaf') in the Vidhan Sabha."
Hooda claimed that the Congress alliance performed the best in Haryana, securing 47.6 percent of the votes, which he said clearly shows the public's desire for change. "All communities want to oust the BJP in the Assembly elections and form a Congress government," he added.
Turning his attention to the BJP's recent announcement of providing free 100 square yards plots, Hooda accused the ruling party of conveniently remembering the scheme now, after witnessing crushing defeats in the Lok Sabha and imminent defeat in the Assembly elections.
"The Congress government had started this scheme, and about four lakh poor SC and OBC families were given free plots measuring 100 square yards, but the BJP stopped this scheme as soon as it took power," Hooda said.
He further revealed that the Congress government had planned to provide plots to more than 7 lakh families in the state, but the BJP's alleged anti-SC/OBC mindset led them to stop the scheme, depriving lakhs of families of their land rights. Hooda demanded that the BJP apologize to all the poor, SC, and OBC families for this injustice.
Additionally, Hooda criticized the BJP's initiatives like the Parivar Pehchan Patra (Family Identity Card) and Property IDs, alleging that these schemes were flawed and led to scams worth crores of rupees, unnecessarily harassing the public. He vowed that if the Congress government is formed, such unnecessary and anti-people portals will be closed down, and digitalization will be used to provide convenience to the people instead of harassing them.
