The 2024 Lok Sabha elections witnessed a fierce political battle in the Karnal constituency, where Manohar Lal Khattar, the former Chief Minister of Haryana, locked horns with Divyanshu Budhiraja, the former President of the Haryana Youth Congress. Despite facing a formidable opponent, Khattar's determination and connection with the electorate led him to a resounding victory, garnering over 2,32,577 more votes than his rival.

From RSS Pracharak to Chief Minister: A Journey of Dedication

Manohar Lal Khattar's journey to the pinnacle of power is a testament to his dedication and commitment to public service. Born in the village of Nindana in Rohtak district, Khattar's early life was rooted in humble beginnings. After completing his education, he joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in 1977 and became a full-time pracharak (preacher) three years later. His lifelong dedication to the RSS's principles and ideology laid the foundation for his political career.

In 1994, Khattar transitioned to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), where he quickly rose through the ranks. During his tenure as the Organisational General Secretary of the BJP in Haryana from 2000 to 2014, he played a pivotal role in strengthening the party's base in the state. His strategic potential and organisational skills were instrumental in the BJP's resounding victory in the 2014 Haryana Legislative Assembly elections, paving the way for his appointment as the state's first BJP Chief Minister.

Initiatives and Reforms: Leaving an Indelible Mark

During his tenure as Chief Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar implemented several initiatives and reforms aimed at improving governance, empowering women, and fostering e-governance. His commitment to police reforms led to the establishment of all-woman police stations in each district and the recruitment of 500 women constables. Additionally, he introduced the Harsamay portal, enabling citizens to file complaints online round-the-clock.

Khattar's efforts towards women's empowerment and the implementation of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Yojana (Save the Girl Child, Educate the Girl Child) scheme have yielded positive results, with the child gender ratio in Haryana improving since he assumed office. Furthermore, his decision to construct a memorial to honour the sacrifice of Garud Commando Gursewak Singh, who was killed in a terrorist attack in Pathankot, reflects his reverence for the nation's heroes.

Controversies and Challenges: Navigating the Political Landscape

While Manohar Lal Khattar's tenure as Chief Minister was marked by several achievements, it was not without its share of controversies and challenges. His remarks on issues related to women and rape evoked strong criticism from various quarters, with opposition parties accusing him of insensitivity and demanding accountability.

Additionally, the cracks that emerged in the state's ruling BJP and Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) coalition over seat-sharing ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections prompted Khattar to submit his resignation as Chief Minister on March 12, 2024. However, his decision to contest the Lok Sabha election from Karnal demonstrated his resilience and determination to continue serving the people of Haryana.

With his resounding victory in the Lok Sabha elections, Manohar Lal Khattar has embarked on a new journey, one that holds the potential to shape the future of Haryana.
