A Trailblazer's Journey

Kumari Selja's journey into politics began with a by-election in 1988, following the footsteps of her late father, former Union Minister Chaudhary Dalbir Singh. Despite an initial setback, Selja's resilience shone through as she clinched victories in the 1991 and 1996 Lok Sabha elections from the Sirsa constituency. Her political acumen and dedication to public service paved the way for her appointment as the Minister of State for Education and Culture in the Narasimha Rao government from 1991 to 1996.

Overcoming Adversities

Selja's path has been marked by challenges, yet she has consistently risen above them. After losing elections from Sirsa in 1998 and 1999, she shifted her base to Ambala, where she emerged victorious in 2004 and 2009. As a Cabinet Minister in the Manmohan Singh-led UPA government from 2009 to 2014, Selja demonstrated her leadership skills and commitment to the nation's progress.

Kumari Selja's victory carries profound significance as a prominent figure representing women and the Dalit community within the Congress party.
