The woke culture rush in Bollywood again

After Israel was ordered to "immediately halt" its military offensive by the top court of the United Nations, Israeli air forces launched an airstrike on May 26 that resulted in the deaths of at least 45 civilians in a tented area in the Gazan city of Rafah. The strike caused worldwide condemnation. Currently trending on social media is the phrase "All Eyes on Rafah." More than 33 million people have shared an AI-generated picture of the situation in Rafah on Instagram alone. "All Eyes on Rafah" is a reference to a region in southern Gaza that is home to numerous tent camps for refugees. The graphic depicts tents in a camp making the phrase.

The majority of Indian celebs, including Samantha Prabhu, Varun Dhawan, Rashmika Mandana, Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra, Richa Chadda, Ishan Khattar, Zoya Akhtar, and Anurag Kashyap shared the AI-made graphic on their Instagram stories. Indian cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma’s wife Ritika Sajdeh also posted the same story on her Instagram handle but she later deleted it after people started trolling her and asked her why she didn’t post anything about the situations of Hindus in Pakistan or the Sandeshkhali incident of Bengal.

Ironically, the Indian celebs who generally prefer to remain silent over the major issues of their own country, suddenly seem concerned about the situation in Rafah. Also, some major arguments in favor of these celebs on social media are posted as “it is their choice”, “respect their freedom of speech”, “those who want peace are posting this” etc!

Obviously, they are free to post whatever they like, India is a free democracy where we all have our fundamental, legal, and statutory rights. But along with all the plethora of rights, we also have our Moral conscience which I guess prompted the Indian celebs to post the “Rafah” story on their handles and if observed correctly one must ask why the moral conscience of Indian celebs didn’t wake up when people of POK were fighting against the Barbarism of Pakistani Army or when the terrorist kill Indian soldiers in Kashmir or for the women of Sandeshkhali who were raped by barbarians of Bengal government sympathizers!

This selective rush of moral responsibility as a whole helps in nothing but exposing the double standards of these celebs on political issues and forces the people to question their sentiments about their own country. The celebs have the right to post whatever they like but they must keep in mind that with all the million followers of their “glam” life on Instagram, they no longer remain private, and their social persona is discussed by these million followers, along with the pictures of them going to the “pilates” class or the photoshoots they do in the studios!

In case these celebs wanted peace, one wonders, “Why their eyes were shut on October 7th”, when Hamas scavengers attacked innocent Israelis and raped several Israeli women, why don’t they speak up on the Israeli hostages in the Hamas camp, and why they prefer to remain silent over the Islamic terrorism which costs very heavily to the humanity every single day!

Interestingly, some of these celebs like Nushrat Bharucha who was rescued by the Israeli forces during the October 7th incident, also posted the “All eyes on Rafah” story. She was in danger of being killed by the Hamas terrorists but in the whole world, she chose to look worried about the situation of Palestinians in Rafah instead of the Israeli hostages in the Hamas camp! Sonam Kapoor, ironically, who played the role of Ashoka Chakra awardee Neerja Bhanot in the movie Neerja, posted the same “Rafah” story, even though the lady she played and who gave her the biggest hit of her career, was killed by the Palestinian terrorists!

Nonetheless, some posts on social media are also claiming that this is some sort of paid PR campaign by the Indian celebs who chose to open their eyes only to international matters and not to the small, domestic ones. Extrapolating the fact that their Instagram stories will do something good for peace between Israel and Palestine, the Indian celebs seem to forget that this selective posting for one side will expose their agendas and do nothing good else of that!
