Haryana Gears Up for Lok Sabha Elections 2024

Over 200 candidates in the fray as Haryana prepares for parliamentary polls on May 25, including by-election for Karnal Assembly seat

The stage is set for the high-stakes Lok Sabha elections in Haryana, with a total of 223 candidates remaining in the fray after the withdrawal of nominations. According to Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Aggarwal, the candidates vying for the parliamentary seats include 207 men and 16 women. 

In addition to the Lok Sabha polls, a by-election will also be held for the Karnal Assembly constituency, where 9 candidates (all men) have entered the electoral contest. Providing a breakdown of the candidates across the state's parliamentary constituencies, Aggarwal revealed that Ambala has a total of 14 candidates, comprising 12 men and 2 women. The Kurukshetra Lok Sabha seat has attracted 31 candidates, with 30 men and 1 woman in the fray.

The Sirsa parliamentary constituency will witness a contest among 19 candidates (18 men and 1 woman), while Hisar has 28 candidates (25 men and 3 women) vying for the seat.

In the Karnal Lok Sabha constituency, a total of 19 candidates (17 men and 2 women) are in the race, and the Sonipat parliamentary seat has attracted 22 male candidates.= Anurag Aggarwal further disclosed that the Rohtak Lok Sabha constituency has 26 candidates (24 men and 2 women), while the Bhiwani-Mahendragarh parliamentary seat has 17 candidates (15 men and 2 women). 

The high-profile Gurugram Lok Sabha seat has drawn 23 candidates (22 men and 1 woman), and the Faridabad parliamentary constituency has 24 candidates (22 men and 2 women) contesting the elections.

The Chief Electoral Officer emphasized that the polling for the Lok Sabha seats and the Karnal Assembly by-election in Haryana will take place on May 25. He appealed to all eligible voters in the state to exercise their democratic right and participate in the electoral process, dedicating one day for the nation.

As the campaign trails heat up across Haryana, political parties and candidates are leaving no stone unturned to woo voters and present their vision for the state and the country. With the high-stakes nature of the elections, a keen contest is anticipated, with voters expected to turn out in large numbers to have their voices heard.

The upcoming polls will not only decide the political landscape of Haryana but also contribute to the broader national picture, as the results will have implications for the formation of the next government at the center.
