Chandigarh: In a major setback for the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) in Haryana, the regional party's state president Nishan Singh has resigned from his position, mere weeks before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Nishan's decision to quit the party has sent shockwaves through the JJP's leadership, with several other top-ranking officials also parting ways with the party.

Confirming the development, Nishan Singh stated that he has already communicated his decision to the party's high command and will be meeting JJP national president Ajay Singh Chautala in the coming days to formally submit his resignation letter. Though Nishan remained tight-lipped about his future political plans, rumors are rife that he may join the Congress party.

The resignation of Nishan Singh, a founding member of the JJP, comes as a significant blow to the party, which was formed in December 2018 after a vertical split in the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD). Nishan had been entrusted with the responsibility of the state president's post since the party's inception.

Adding to the JJP's woes, the party's national general secretary and Chairperson of the Narnaul Municipal Council, Kamlesh Saini, has also resigned from all her posts and the party's primary membership. In her resignation letter to Ajay Chautala, Saini cited "sentiments and feedback from her supporters" as the reason behind her decision.

Furthermore, JJP's state women secretary, Mamata Kataria, has also announced her departure from the party, accusing the party's founding leader and current Deputy Chief Minister, Dushyant Chautala, of neglecting the Rania constituency during his tenure.

The resignation chain within the JJP has not stopped there. The party's state vice-president, Surendra Lega, has also verbally communicated his decision to quit the party, stating that he will stand by the decisions taken by Nishan Singh.

The timing of these resignations, coming just weeks before the crucial Lok Sabha elections, has dealt a significant blow to the JJP's electoral prospects. The party, which had forged a post-poll alliance with the BJP in Haryana after the 2019 Assembly elections, had recently announced its plans to field candidates in all 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

Commenting on Nishan Singh's decision, Dushyant Chautala urged the party veteran to reconsider his move, stating that he should not abandon the party in its hour of need. However, Nishan, in his statement, cited the "violation of sentiments" within the party as the primary reason behind his resignation, hinting at a rift between the party's top leadership and the grassroots workers.

As the JJP grapples with these internal upheavals, the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Haryana have taken on an even greater significance, with the regional party's future hanging in the balance. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining the party's ability to weather this storm and present a united front to the voters.
