Polling for the Karnal Assembly seat in Haryana is set for May 25, triggered by the resignation of former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. The by-election follows Khattar's decision to step down as MLA after being replaced by Nayab Singh Saini as CM.

Khattar, who held the Karnal seat since 2014, relinquished his position as MLA on Wednesday, making way for Saini. He will now contest the Karnal Lok Sabha constituency as the BJP candidate.

Expressing his commitment to serving the people of Haryana, Khattar stated, "During the past nine-and-a-half years, I served as the Leader of the House. I will serve the people of Haryana till my last breath."

Khattar's political dominance in Karnal was evident through his consecutive victories in 2014 and 2019, securing the seat by significant margins. Karnal, known as the 'CM city' since Khattar's tenure, holds strategic importance in Haryana's political landscape.

With Lok Sabha elections scheduled in seven phases starting from April 19, the polling for Haryana's parliamentary seats will coincide with the Karnal by-election on May 25. The Karnal assembly constituency, situated on the Delhi-Ambala GT road, is renowned for its agricultural contributions, particularly in wheat, rice, and milk production.

As political dynamics evolve in Haryana, the by-election will serve as a litmus test for the BJP's stronghold in Karnal, amidst leadership transitions and changing electoral landscapes.
