The Haryana portion of the Dwarka Expressway will open this month, announced Central Minister and MP for Gurugram Rao Inderjit Singh. Following a meeting with Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, Gurugram MP declared. According to MP Rao, Gadkari told NHAI employees to start work on the Gurugram stretch of the heavily delayed highway rather than waiting for the Delhi side to be finished. “It will take another four to five months to complete the work on the Delhi section. The Gurugram section is all ready and residents have been seeking its inauguration for long. Gadkari has instructed the NHAI officials to open the stretch for vehicular movement”, said Rao Inderjit Singh.
The entire length of the Dwarka Expressway is 29 km, of which 18.9 km are in Haryana and the remaining 10.1 km are in Delhi. Starting at Shiv-Murti on National Highway-8, the expressway ends close to the Kherki Daula toll plaza. An estimated Rs 10,000 crore would be spent on the project in total. The current alignment is intended to link Dwarka's Sector 21 with NH-8, traversing Gurugram's Sectors 88, 84, 83, and 99–113. The haryana leg of the Dwarka Expressway is already much delayed and after many meetings with Nitin Gadkari, Rao Inderjit Singh announced the news of opening this month.
Noteworthy, the state Transport Department intends to replace the current one in Sector 12 in Gurugram with a brand-new interstate bus terminal located close to the Dwarka Expressway in Sector 36A. For the new bus terminal, the state government has instructed the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation to give 15 acres of land free of charge to the Transport Department. Notably, Inquiring about the removal of the Kherki Daula toll plaza, the MP stated that the government was prepared with a substitute location and that the toll plaza's contract had run out.
