Hisar's Madhu Verma has brought pride to Haryana and the country by winning a gold medal at the first-ever World Yogasana Championship held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. This international meet, which was organized between June 4 and June 8, saw the participation of over 500 participants from 78 different nations.
Madhu won a gold medal in the Twisting Body category of the Senior Age Group in the Yogasana sport.
Sharing her journey, Madhu said she began practising yoga seven to eight years ago while she was in school with the simple goal of staying healthy. Exposure to yoga classes and school competitions gradually inspired her to pursue the sport professionally.
She has always been successful throughout her career. She won a gold medal in All India University Games in 2021, got a bronze in Khelo India University Games and another gold medal in Asian Yogasana Championship in 2025, before clinching world champion title in this season.
Madhu expressed gratitude towards the Indian Government for the increased interest in Yogasana in India, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for propagating yoga across the globe. She encouraged young people to adopt yoga, saying it not only improves physical and mental well-being but also opens up opportunities in competitive sports and careers.
Looking ahead, Madhu said her dream is to see Yogasana become part of the Olympic Games.
On her return to Hisar, she received a warm welcome from local residents and well-wishers. Colony members celebrated her achievement with sweets and honoured her with a cash reward of Rs 11,000 in recognition of her remarkable accomplishment.
