NCW Summons Comedians Pranit More and Himanshu Jangra Over Viral 'Rs 370 Biryani' Remark, Seeks Report From Haryana DGP

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has summoned comedians Pranit More and Himanshu Jangra over a viral stand-up comedy clip from Gurugram that allegedly contained remarks glorifying sexual coercion and non-consensual behaviour.

Taking serious note of the controversy, the Commission has also written to Haryana DGP Ajay Singhal, seeking details of the FIR, action taken by the police and a comprehensive Action Taken Report (ATR) within seven days.

According to the NCW, the remarks made during the performance trivialised issues related to women's consent and dignity while being presented as entertainment before a public audience. The Commission observed that normalising or glorifying such behaviour could have serious consequences for women's safety and public attitudes towards gender-based violence.

Pranit More and Himanshu Jangra have been directed to appear before the Commission on June 22.

Apart from seeking details of any FIR registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and other applicable laws, the NCW has also asked Haryana Police to provide information on the examination and authentication of the viral video and the role of the organisers, performers and venue management.

The women's rights body has further sought details of the measures proposed by the state police to ensure that public entertainment platforms and digital spaces do not become vehicles for promoting or normalising sexual harassment, coercion or behaviour that undermines the dignity of women.

The controversy erupted after clips from the Gurugram show circulated widely on social media, triggering criticism and calls for legal action. The Commission's intervention is expected to intensify scrutiny of the incident as authorities examine the content and the circumstances surrounding the performance.
