A woman head constable posted at the Manesar Women's Police Station in Gurugram has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 to remove the names of two brothers from a criminal investigation.
The accused, identified as Head Constable Kavita, was caught red-handed during an ACB trap operation. A case has been registered against her under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further investigation is in progress.
According to ACB officials, the names of two brothers, Balram and Mukesh, had been included in a case registered at the Manesar Women's Police Station. Kavita, who was serving as the investigating officer, allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 in exchange for excluding their names from the investigation and official records.
After the deal was allegedly finalised, one of the brothers approached the ACB in Gurugram and lodged a complaint. Acting on the information, the bureau organised a trap and provided the complainant with chemically treated currency notes.
Officials said the complainant handed over the money to the accused near the Manesar Women's Police Station, following which the ACB team immediately apprehended her and recovered the tainted cash from her possession.
A senior ACB official confirmed that legal proceedings have been initiated and the matter is under further investigation. The bureau is also examining whether the accused was acting alone or if others were involved in the alleged bribery racket.
