A fresh twist has emerged in the viral Instagram controversy surrounding Virat Kohli after German influencer and singer LizLaz claimed she was allegedly offered money to publicly speak against the cricketer and level false accusations against him.
Speaking during an interview with Filmymantra Media, clips of which are now widely circulating online, LizLaz said she refused to participate in any campaign aimed at damaging Kohli’s image. According to her, some journalists allegedly approached her with offers to make negative statements for publicity and financial gain.
She maintained that she had no reason to target Kohli and instead described him as one of her favourite cricketers. LizLaz also said she was surprised by the sudden attention and only became aware of the controversy after receiving multiple calls and messages.
The issue began after Kohli’s Instagram account appeared to “like” an old post featuring LizLaz and photographer Advait Vaidya. Since Kohli does not follow the influencer, screenshots of the interaction quickly went viral, sparking memes and speculation across social media.
The controversy also revived memories of Kohli’s earlier “algorithm” explanation during a similar online episode involving actress and influencer Avneet Kaur in 2025. This time too, social media users flooded platforms with memes and jokes, with phrases like “algorithm registered another interaction” trending online.
Amid the online storm, Kohli’s IPL 2026 form continues to remain under the spotlight. Playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the former India captain has scored 379 runs in 11 matches so far this season, although he heads into the team’s clash against Kolkata Knight Riders after two consecutive ducks. Despite the brief dip, RCB’s strong performances have kept the franchise firmly in the playoff race.
