Haryana Revises Group-D Recruitment Rules, Selection Now Based Fully on CET Scores

Socio-economic weightage scrapped; merit list to be prepared out of 95 marks under amended provisions

In a significant step to improve transparency and meritocracy in government recruitment, Haryana Government has changed the rules for Group-D recruitments. Candidates will now be selected entirely on the basis of their Common Eligibility Test (CET) scores, with no additional weightage for socio-economic criteria.

The notification, issued by Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, confirms that amendments have been made under Section 26 of the Haryana Group-D Employees (Recruitment and Conditions of Service) Act, 2018. With this change, the final merit list for Group-D posts will be prepared out of 95 marks purely on the basis of CET performance.

Earlier, certain additional marks were granted on socio-economic grounds. That provision has now been withdrawn, signaling the government’s shift toward a strictly performance-based system. Officials say the move is designed to make the recruitment process more uniform, transparent, and examination-centric.

The CET syllabus for the appointments of candidates to Group-D positions has been clearly structured in two components. General Subjects such as General Awareness, Reasoning, English, and Hindi will cover Seventy-Five percent of the marks.

The remaining 25 percent will focus on Haryana-specific topics, including the state’s history, geography, literature, culture, environment, and general knowledge.

By placing full emphasis on CET scores, the government aims to streamline hiring and reduce disputes over selection criteria. The change is expected to directly impact future recruitment cycles and may alter preparation strategies for thousands of aspirants across the state.

For candidates, the message is clear: performance in the CET will now be the sole deciding factor.
