Seema Kumar, popularly known as Simmi Shahriya, has brought immense pride to Panipat by winning a bronze medal at the 9th Asian Senior Jujitsu Championship held in Amman, Jordan. The athlete, who resides in Model Town area of Panipat, has created history by securing India's position on the international stage.

Simmi's selection for this prestigious championship came after an impressive performance during trials held on April 27 in Haldwani, where her national ranking and exceptional skills earned her a spot in the Indian team. Her fitness coach Praveen Nandal confirmed that Simmi has been training rigorously for the past two years under the guidance of coach Sanjeev Tomar in Model Town.

Originally from Pathankot, Simmi competed in the 70kg weight category and faced tough competition from across Asia. She fought against opponents from Thailand in her first match, followed by the Philippines in the second, and Chinese Taipei in the third round. Her consistent performance throughout these matches secured her the third position in Asia and a coveted bronze medal.

The Indian contingent of 45 members delivered an outstanding performance at the championship, collectively winning 2 gold, 7 silver, and 10 bronze medals. This impressive medal tally helped India achieve the 9th ranking in Asia, showcasing the country's growing strength in jujitsu.

Coach Sanjeev Tomar revealed that Simmi had been selected for international competitions multiple times in the past but could not participate due to financial constraints. "She has worked incredibly hard despite facing economic challenges. This achievement is the result of her determination and continuous effort," Tomar explained.

With this bronze medal, Simmi has not only made her mark in Asian jujitsu but has also opened doors for future opportunities. Her success has positioned her as a strong contender for the upcoming Asian Games scheduled to be held in Japan next year.
