Chandigarh on high alert after Air Force warning; residents told to stay indoors

Residents Ordered to Shelter Indoors as Military Sirens Sound Across City Following Security Alert from Air Force Station; Emergency Protocols Activated Amid Escalating Border Situation

CHANDIGARH: Authorities sounded sirens across multiple parts of Chandigarh on Friday morning after the Air Force Station issued a potential aerial threat alert, plunging the city into an emergency situation.

Following the warning, the District Commissioner's office has urged all residents to stay indoors and avoid open areas, balconies and rooftops until further notice from officials. "This is a precautionary measure in view of an air warning received from the Air Force Station. Citizens are advised to stay calm, remain inside their homes, and await further instructions from official sources," a statement from the DC's office said.

The alert comes just hours after reported drone attacks along India's western border with Pakistan. The Indian Army had earlier confirmed that Pakistani forces launched multiple attacks using drones and other munitions along the western frontier during the night of May 8-9.

Security measures have been increased throughout the city as the tensions near the border areas escalate. Emergency response team are on high alert and standby and authorities are continuosly monitoring the situation.

Residents reported hearing sirens shortly before 9 AM, with many taking to social media seeking information about the unusual alert. Several government officies and educational institutions have been closed for today. 

A heavy police presence was observed at key intersections and government buildings, with additional security personnel deployed at the Air Force Station perimeter. Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
