Home Minister Amit Shah personally reached out to the Chief Ministers of all the states across India directing them to identify all Pakistani nations living in their states and ensure their departure.
"No Pakistani citizen should remain in India beyond the deadline," Shah reportedly told the CMs during Friday's calls.
This directive follows the government's announcement canceling all visas issued to Pakistani nationals effective April 27. Those holding SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) visas have been ordered to leave within 48 hours.
In a major diplomatic blow, India has also suspended the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty. Water Resources Secretary Debashree Mukherjee formally notified her Pakistani counterpart Syed Ali Murtaza that the treaty would be suspended with immediate effect, citing "fundamental changes in circumstances" since its execution.
The attack occured on Tuesday when terrorist hiding in the mountains started shooting tourists in the Baisaran valley - an area also known as the "Mini Switzerland" for its meadows.
The brazen assault in broad daylight targeted one of Kashmir's most popular tourist destinations during peak season.
Prime Minister Modi spoke with Home Minister Amit Shah instructing to take all possible measures. An emergency meeting was also conducted in which officials were directed to strengthen security and various diplomatic responses were announced which includes cancellation of visas, closing of the Attari- Wagah Border and suspension of the Indus Water Treaty.
The National Human Rights Commission has strongly condemned the attack, joining voices across the political spectrum in expressing outrage and support for government actions. The unity displayed by various political parties, organizations and citizens has sent a clear message that India stands together against terrorism.
