Vinesh Phogat, the accomplished wrestler who recently entered politics as an elected MLA, has announced her intention to establish an international-level sports academy using the Rs 4 crore prize money awarded to her by the Haryana Government.
The state government agreed to provide Phogat with the cash award and a residential plot in recognition of her sporting achievements. In response, Phogat shared her plans on Facebook, expressing her desire to give back to society.
"The true victory is when a player's hard work is honoured. The people have given me so much—love, respect, trust, courage, and motivation. Now it's time for me to repay all of that," Phogat stated in her social media post.
Phogat emphasized that her responsibilities have evolved beyond her role as an athlete. "As a public representative, and given the struggles I've been a part of, my responsibilities are no longer just as a player, but also toward the thousands of dreams that seek to build a future in a safe environment through sports," she explained.
The academy she envisions will provide young athletes with top-tier resources and training facilities. Phogat described the government award not merely as a prize but as "an opportunity, a means to fulfill that dream I've held onto for years."
"This reward will be used to establish an international-level sports academy, where young athletes can take their talents to new heights with the best resources," she announced.
"An academy where they are not just free from lack of resources, but also receive the respect and motivation that every hardworking athlete deserves."
Phogat Called out for the support of the people stating that the academy is a collective inspiration while stating that "this isn't just my dream, it's ours". The announcement comes as Phogat transitions from her celebrated wrestling career to her new role in public service, bringing her experience from the sports arena to governance and development initiatives.
