The presentation of Haryana's official state song in the current budget session has hit a roadblock after receiving multiple objections from different authors. Two authors have raised concerns directly, while three more objections have reached the Vidhan Sabha Secretariat.
The song was scheduled to be presented during the ongoing budget session, but the committee led by Rewari MLA Lakshman Yadav must now address all objections before finalizing the state song for approval and presentation in the assembly.
With the assembly proceedings scheduled to run for only three days from March 26 to 28, it appears unlikely that the state song will receive approval during this budget session.
Meeting Failed to Reach Consensus
The committee held a meeting on March 20 after the budget session proceedings to resolve these objections, but no consensus was reached. Congress MLAs left to meet former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who was preparing to return to Delhi, preventing a thorough discussion on the objections raised against the state song.
Original Song and Claims
The state song was written by Dr. Balkishan Sharma from Panipat. The three-minute song contains 21 lines mentioning Kurukshetra's land, farmers, athletes, soldiers, and traditional foods like milk and curd.
Dr. Balkishan Sharma claims that he wrote the song years before those who have raised objections. Dr. Shyam Sharma from Kurukshetra sang the song, Paras Chopra composed it, and Malvika Pandit from Rohtak directed it. Initially, Bollywood singer Kailash Kher was supposed to sing it, but Dr. Shyam Sharma ultimately provided the vocals due to concerns about authentic Haryanvi pronunciation.
Competing Claims
Sonipat-based Haryanvi actress and writer Geetu Pari claims she wrote the song on January 29, 2024, and alleges that most of her lines were directly copied.
Krishna Kumar from Fatehabad asserts that he wrote the state song but someone else is being credited for it. He has written to the Chief Minister to complain about this issue.
Lakshman Singh Yadav, chairman of the State Song Selection Committee, stated that the song will only be finalized after addressing all objections. The committee will hold another meeting to review the situation before making a decision.
