May will mark the beginning of a new chapter for Haryana's commuters as Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) kicks off construction of their long-awaited metro project. Phase one involves creating a 15.2-kilometer elevated pathway with 14 stations linking HUDA City Centre to Sector 9. The price tag for this section? About ₹1,286 crore.
GMRL published construction tenders just last week, with bid opening set for April 22. They'll hand work orders to the winning contractor right after. With luck and good management, commuters might see the first stretch of this new metro line completed around June 2027.
Key Stations on the New Route
Starting at HUDA City Centre, this fresh metro line will make stops at Sector 45, Sector 46 (where Cyber Park is), Sector 47, Subhash Chowk, Sector 48, Sector 33, Hero Honda Chowk, Udyog Vihar 6, Sector 10, Sector 37, Basai, and finally Sector 9. They're also planning a branch that will join Basai with the Dwarka Expressway at Sector 101 station – a huge boost for folks traveling to Delhi.
Overall Project Scope and Features
The whole project stretches across 28.5 kilometers, including a short 1.85-kilometer piece from Basai village to Dwarka Expressway. The main line from HUDA City Centre to Cyber City will run completely above ground for 26.65 kilometers, featuring 27 stations total.
One of the best parts? An interchange depot at HUDA City Centre connecting with Delhi Metro's Yellow Line. This means direct travel between Gurugram's busy centers and Delhi, cutting down travel time for thousands who make this journey daily.
Construction Plans and Control Room
The tender details show the winning contractor will need to thoroughly survey the viaduct route and build station structures, including supports for tracks and commercial spaces. They'll also set up a control room to keep communication flowing between offices and work sites, helping the whole project run smoothly.
Current Metro Services in Gurugram
Right now, Gurugram residents make do with just two metro options – a 7-kilometer chunk of Delhi Metro's Yellow Line and the 12.85-kilometer Rapid Metro corridor. Once finished, this new addition will offer an efficient, eco-friendly way to get around for locals and visitors alike.
The state government gave this project their blessing back in August 2020, setting aside approximately ₹6,821.13 crore for the complete vision. It's a major step toward meeting the transportation needs of Haryana's quickly growing urban areas.
