Modi's visit to USA carries significant diplomatic weight as the fourth foreign leader to meet Trump since his inauguration, following visits by Israeli PM Netanyahu, Japan's Ishiba, and Jordan's King Abdullah II. The discussions covered a wide range of bilateral and global issues, reflecting the growing importance of US-India relations.

In a power packed summit between India and USA , the top leaders found commom grounds on everything from stealth fighters to energy deals which once again proves that when world's largest democracy meets world's powerful nation, history gets written in bols.

Prime Minister Modi drew an interesting parallel between Trump's "MAGA" (Make America Great Again) and India's "Viksit Bharat" initiative, terming it "MIGA" in the American context.  This could result in a potential formation of  "MEGA partnership between the two great nations.

President Trump Announced plans to increase military sales to India by "many millions of dollars," including the potential supply of F-35 stealth fighter planes.  India agrees to increase oil and gas imports from US to address the trade imbalances as Modi emphasised on energy security and nuclear power development as key focus areas.

Immigration and Ukraine Crisis

The summit occurred against the backdrop of controversial deportations, with 104 Indian immigrants recently sent back under disputed circumstances. Reports indicate plans for additional deportations affecting nearly 800 individuals, including 487 Indian citizens. While India has expressed support for its citizens, it has also registered concerns about their treatment during the deportation process. On the Ukraine conflict, Modi expressed appreciation for Trump's diplomatic efforts with President Putin. He clarified India's position, stating that rather than being neutral, India stands firmly on the side of peace.

Defense and Security Cooperation Takes Center Stage

The bilateral talks yielded a landmark defense framework agreement, strengthening military ties between the two nations. In a major breakthrough, President Trump announced the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, accused in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, with the Ministry of External Affairs confirming that final logistics are being worked out. This move signals enhanced cooperation in counter-terrorism efforts.

Trade and Tariffs Discussion

Trump adopted a conciliatory tone on trade issues, stating that the US is "not looking to beating anyone" regarding tariffs on India. Hours before the meeting, Trump's announcement of "reciprocal tariffs" created diplomatic pressure. Citing India's historically high tariffs, Trump referenced Harley-Davidson's struggles in the Indian market. However, India's recent decision to slash tariffs on high-end motorcycles demonstrated willingness to address US concerns. The discussion expanded to include potential US manufacturing opportunities in sectors like medical equipment, automobiles, chips, and semiconductors.

High-Profile Diplomatic Engagements

Modi's schedule included strategic meetings with key figures at Blair House. Discussions with Tesla CEO Elon Musk focused on technological cooperation, while talks with Republican leader Vivek Ramaswamy covered innovation and bilateral ties. The meeting with National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, attended by senior Indian officials, set the groundwork for security discussions.
