Surajkund International Crafts Mela 2025 Began

The prestigious Surajkund International Crafts Mela began its 38th edition today with Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat inaugurating the 16-day cultural extravaganza. The event, running from February 7 to February 23, promises to be a grand celebration of art, culture, and craftsmanship.

During the inauguration, Minister Shekhawat emphasized India's growing status as a cultural tourism destination, drawing parallels between events like the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj and the Surajkund Mela. He highlighted the importance of the "Orange Economy," focusing on cultural and creative industries worldwide.

The Mela is spread across 45 acres, the mela grounds feature over 1,250 huts and will host more than 2,500 artisans from India and abroad. The extensive setup reflects the event's significance as one of India's largest craft fairs.

BIMSTEC Participation

The fair features strong participation from BIMSTEC nations, including India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, and Sri Lanka, embodying the principle of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (The World is One Family).

Minister Shekhawat urged authorities to leverage social media and digital marketing to expand the fair's global reach, emphasizing Haryana's potential as a hub for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism due to its proximity to Delhi.
