Principal Secretary of Sports Department, Navdeep Singh Virk, has outlined a structured reward system that provides Rs 25,000 for gold medals, Rs 15,000 for silver, and Rs 10,000 for bronze medals under the newly launched Cash Award for Encouragement of Sportspersons Scheme for 2024-25.  The Haryana government has demonstrated its continued dedication to nurturing sporting talent by introducing this initiative. This initiative represents a significant step in supporting athletes who have achieved success at the national level but haven't received financial recognition through existing programs.

Eligibility Criteria

The scheme has been carefully designed with specific eligibility requirements to ensure fair distribution of resources. Athletes must be representing Haryana and cannot be employed by either the Central or state government. The program specifically recognizes achievements in national-level tournaments organized by recognized federations or associations after April 1, 2019. Importantly, participants can receive only one cash award per financial year, focusing the support on emerging talent.

Administrative Framework and Timeline

The government has established a district level committee led by district sports officer. This committee includes experienced sports administrators and coaches who will evaluate applications and verify credentials. The streamlined process allows athletes to apply on any working day, with the committee required to process applications within 15 calendar days. The Directorate of Sports maintains a swift 5-day turnaround for fund disbursement, ensuring timely support for successful applicants.

The program demonstrates Haryana's strategic approach to maintaining its position as India's sporting powerhouse by providing targeted financial support to emerging athletes who might otherwise lack access to funding opportunities. This initiative could serve as a model for other states seeking to develop their sports infrastructure and support systems.
