In the sea of saffron-clad sadhus at Prayagraj's Maha Kumbh 2025, one figure stands out - Abhey Singh, popularly known as 'IIT Baba'. Abhey Singh, former aerospace engineer from Haryana has become a symbol of how modern education and spiritual wisdom can coexist harmoniously.
From Engineering to Enlightenment - Searching the Meaning of Life
After spending four years studying aerospace engineering at IIT Bombay, Singh took an unconventional path. Instead of pursuing a lucrative corporate career, he chose to explore various fields, including a Master's in Design and photography. "You will keep searching for the meaning of life. I used to find that in engineering but never found my answers," Singh shared in a recent interview.
His quest for knowledge led him through diverse experiences - from corporate jobs to teaching, from studying post-modernism to exploring the works of ancient philosophers like Socrates and Plato. However, his true calling emerged when he began investigating Sanskrit's history and delving into the mysteries of mind and consciousness.
Mixing Science and Spirituality
Today, Singh combines his technical background with spiritual wisdom, making complex philosophical concepts accessible to young seekers. As a devoted follower of Shiva, he focuses on teaching yoga, meditation, and spiritual practices while maintaining an active social media presence that bridges his past and present lives.
"If you have to understand the mind or mental health, then you can do it through spirituality. This stage is the best stage for me," explains Singh, who has found his purpose in helping others navigate their spiritual journeys while staying grounded in scientific understanding.
At the Maha Kumbh, where tradition meets modernity, Singh represents a new generation of spiritual leaders who demonstrate that educational excellence and spiritual awakening can go hand in hand, inspiring countless young Indians to explore their own paths to self-discovery.
