SAI Officials Deny Prior Knowledge of Doping Scandal in Boxing Championship

Sports Authority of India's Hisar center claims no information about suspected steroid use and discovery of medical waste during state-level boxing event; Boxing Federation of India demands report while NADA testing delayed.

In a significant turn of events , a controversy unfolded at Hisar's Giri Centre Stadium after the discovery of empty vials and syringes during Elite Men Boxing Championship. The Haryana Boxing Sangh then requested NADA to conduct doping tests of the winners. The controversy deepened as SAI Assistant Director Vijay Kumar Manchanda stated they were kept in the dark about suspected doping activities during the Elite Men Haryana State Boxing Championship. Although the event took place at their facility still SAI officials maintain they received no information about the discovery of medical waste in stadium washrooms.

Investigation and Oversight Issues

The Elite Men Haryana State Boxing Championship went on for three days and saw participation from 250 athletes representing 22 districts and three SAI centers, has come under intense scrutiny after this incident. SAI authorities questions the Haryana Boxing Sangh's handling of the situation, particularly their decision not to immediately inform SAI authorities upon discovering evidence of possible doping. 

National Bodies Step In

The Boxing Federation of India has demanded a detailed report from the Haryana Boxing Sangh following media coverage of the incident. Meanwhile, NADA testing has been postponed to the upcoming national event in Bareilly, scheduled for January 2025, due to logistical constraints in organizing immediate sample collection.
