In a significant stride towards urban development, Chief Minister Sh. Manohar Lal announced the regularization of 210 unauthorized colonies, comprising 103 from the Department of Town and Country Planning and 107 from the Urban Local Bodies Department. Addressing a press conference, the Chief Minister outlined the government's commitment to provide essential amenities, including roads, sewerage, water supply, and streetlights, to residents in these colonies.

The state government has set a final deadline of January 31, 2024, to complete the notification process for all 2,274 unauthorized colonies. This move follows the earlier relief provided by the Chief Minister, resulting in the regularization of 1,883 colonies. Highlighting a notable contrast with the previous Congress government, he emphasized that only 874 unauthorized colonies were regularized during the Congress's 10-year tenure, whereas the current government has regularized a total of 1,673 colonies.

A dedicated team, led by the Deputy Commissioner and District Municipal Commissioner, oversees the regularization process. Utilizing drones and satellite imagery for surveillance, the government aims to control the rise of unauthorized colonies. Measures such as issuing Town and Country Planning (TCP) orders and No Due Certificates (NDC) contribute to preventing illegal encroachment and registries of such properties.

The Chief Minister underscored the government's commitment to take strict action against developers of unauthorized colonies and highlighted changes in the licensing process. The state government has also introduced the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Awas Yojana to facilitate affordable housing in authorized colonies, emphasizing the importance of people building their houses in authorized areas.

In response to questions raised by the opposition during the assembly session on December 15 regarding the data presented by the Chief Minister, he assured that proper information and data would be provided to address doubts. Congress leader Ch. Bhupinder Singh Hooda advocated for a half-hour discussion on this issue.
