A Supreme Court bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan expressed their concern over deteriorating health of farmer leader Dallewal and called for immediate medical help on Friday.
Jagjit Dallewal, currently fasting at the Khanauri border has been on a fast-unto-death since November 26, demanding a legal guarantee for minimum support price (MSP) for crops and to secure the farmers's rights. Dallewal 's protest has gained significant attention, the farmer leader even written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, signed with his own blood, emphasizing the critical nature of their demands.
The court's approach is justified and balanced. While urging the provision of medical aid, the justices explicitly warned against using force to break Dallewal's protest. "The life of Mr. Dallewal is precious," the bench noted, recommending direct dialogue and persuasion.
The Supreme Court has also asked the high-powered committee to have a concersation with the protesting farmers and further suggesting to temporarily suspend the blockade of highway. The Advocate General of Punjab acknowledged the economic impact, and stated that the blockade is causing significant financial problems on the state.
The farmer leader says that this protest is about saving the future of Farmers and secure farmers' rights. The slow progress of the Central government on the investigation regarding farmers demands is point of contention for farmers.
