The case came to light when a Narnaul resident filed a complaint on September 29, 2023. The complainant alleged that after her daughter's engagement to Karan Singh Bagoria, an HCS officer, his father Ashok Kumar demanded ₹25 lakh, claiming it was needed for his son's career advancement. Under pressure, the family arranged and paid the amount in installments.

Escalating Demands After HCS Selection

Following Karan's selection as an HCS officer, the demands escalated significantly. The accused allegedly demanded an additional ₹50 lakh and a Fortuner SUV, claiming these were necessary for securing an SDM position for his son. When the bride's family expressed their inability to meet these demands, the relationship was terminated abruptly.

Threats and Intimidation

The situation took a darker turn when the accused, leveraging his position as a Delhi Police Sub-Inspector, allegedly threatened the bride's family. According to the complaint, he warned them of false cases and even threatened an encounter, showcasing a concerning abuse of power. When the family requested the return of their money, the accused refused.

Legal Action and Current Status

DSP Hardeep Singh of Narnaul confirmed the arrest and stated that the accused has been remanded to one day's police custody. The case has highlighted the persistent issue of dowry demands in society, particularly troubling when involving law enforcement officials. The accused reportedly claimed that his son's uncle was arranging another match with an ₹80 lakh dowry, showing the extent of the dowry system.
