Temperature Takes Sharp Dip

The impact of mountain snowfall has begun to show in Haryana's plains, with Hisar experiencing a significant temperature drop of 2.5 degrees within 24 hours, recording a minimum of 11.5 degrees Celsius. Karnal also felt the winter's grip with temperatures falling to 13 degrees, signaling the onset of the cold season.

Critical Air Quality Situation

Eight cities in Haryana have joined the list of India's most polluted urban areas. Bhiwani, Bahadurgarh, Jind, Rohtak, Kaithal, Panipat, Gurugram, and Sonipat all recorded AQI levels exceeding 300. Jind emerged as the most polluted city in the state with an alarming AQI of 394, while Delhi topped the national list with an AQI of 417.

Weather Pattern Analysis and Forecast

Dr. Madan Khichad, Head of Agricultural Meteorology Department at Haryana Agricultural University, explains that smog conditions prevailed from November 12-16 due to two consecutive western disturbances. The shift in wind patterns from north-westerly to easterly increased moisture content, trapping pollutants in the lower atmosphere. While temporary relief is expected from Sunday, experts predict another western disturbance will affect the region from November 22, likely bringing back foggy conditions.
