Haryana experienced another earthquake late on Tuesday night, measuring 3.0 on the Richter scale with its epicentre in Panipat, as reported by the National Seismology Center (NCS). This marks the second earthquake in the state within the past month, with previous tremors ranging between 3.0 to 4.0 in intensity. The recent event occurred at a depth of 5 kilometres underground.
Earlier, on September 5th, Haryana witnessed two earthquakes on the same day, indicating an increased seismic activity in the region. The fault line stretching from Dehradun in Uttarakhand to Mahendragarh district in Haryana is considered a significant factor behind these frequent earthquakes. The shifting plates along this fault line collide, generating vibrations that result in earthquake tremors.
The NCS has been monitoring and providing information on these seismic activities. To mitigate the impact of earthquakes, it is essential to construct houses using earthquake-resistant materials and avoid building structures exceeding 2-3 storeys. Additionally, conducting soil tests and considering other factors before constructing buildings can contribute to enhanced earthquake preparedness.
