Local residents from fourteen villages in Faridabad district have formed a united front against a proposed waste-to-charcoal plant near Mothuka village. At a panchayat meeting held today, villagers expressed serious concerns about potential environmental hazards and announced plans for organized protests if the project isn't relocated.

The Rs 500-crore project, a joint venture between NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVNL) and the Municipal Corporations of Faridabad and Gurugram, was initially seen as a solution to the region's waste management challenges. However, local residents fear it will bring more problems than solutions to their doorstep.

"We cannot compromise our health and living conditions," said Mohan Bansal, sarpanch of Mothuka village. "While we support development, it shouldn't come at the cost of our environment and well-being."

According to Raghuraj, a former sarpanch of Faijjupur village, the 20-acre land was originally acquired for a power plant with specific conditions. The community supports industrial development but remains firm in its opposition to projects that could pollute their environment.

Current Status and Concerns:

  • Survey work is ongoing despite local opposition
  • Villagers have submitted memorandums to authorities
  • The project aims to address waste disposal issues following NGT's ban on dumping at Bandhwari
  • Local authorities await final decisions from NVVNL and state government
