In a significant development following the recent Haryana Assembly elections, Congress MP Deepender Hooda has addressed the party's defeat and the pending selection of the Leader of Opposition during an event in Rohtak. Speaking to attendees, Hooda revealed that the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has formed a two-member committee, comprising Bhupesh Baghel and Harish Chaudhary, to investigate the causes behind the party's electoral setback.
Hooda pointed out that despite the defeat, Congress secured an almost equal vote percentage as the BJP in Haryana. "Both parties received five seats each in the Lok Sabha elections, and for the first time, we have a strong opposition with 37 MLAs," he stated. The Congress MP accused the BJP of employing unfair tactics during the election process, saying, "BJP used all possible methods - fair and unfair - to win the elections."
Addressing concerns about the delay in appointing the Leader of Opposition, Hooda assured that the party high command would make the decision soon. He emphasized that Congress would strongly voice people's concerns in the Assembly, leveraging their significant opposition presence.
The MP also highlighted that several candidates are now approaching the Election Commission to appeal against what they claim were BJP's controversial winning tactics. "The Congress party will continue to be a strong opposition voice despite the challenges we faced," Hooda affirmed.
When questioned about organizational weaknesses contributing to the defeat, Hooda redirected attention to the newly formed committee's role in examining all factors comprehensively.
