Waste Burning Triggers Environmental Action

In a swift move against environmental violations, the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) has initiated action against senior officials after discovering illegal waste burning and poor dust management in Bahadurgarh. The violations, caught during a recent inspection, have intensified concerns about deteriorating air quality in the Delhi-NCR region.

Construction Site Negligence Exposed

HSPCB's inspection of the Bahadurgarh bypass construction project revealed multiple violations along the Rohtak-Delhi Highway. At key locations including Balor Chowk underpass, Badli chowk, Jhajjar Chowk, and Beri Chowk underpass, officials found:

  • Illegal burning of solid and plastic waste
  • Uncovered construction materials
  • Non-functional dust control measures
  • Missing anti-smog guns
  • Unauthorized waste dumping
  • Unpaved roads causing dust pollution

Officials Face Strict Penalties

The NHAI project director from Sonepat must now answer for violations of National Green Tribunal directions and GRAP guidelines. The local BDPO faces charges related to improper waste management and burning. Both officials must:

  • Submit detailed compliance reports
  • Pay environmental compensation
  • Implement immediate corrective measures
  • Ensure proper waste disposal
  • Install dust control mechanisms

According to Amit Dahiya, SDO of HSPCB Bahadurgarh, the authorities are calculating environmental compensation based on established norms. "The violations during the GRAP period are of serious nature and require immediate action," stated the show-cause notice issued to the BDPO.

The crackdown comes at a crucial time when the region is struggling with poor air quality, making these violations particularly serious. The HSPCB has emphasized the need for strict compliance with environmental guidelines and is maintaining vigilant monitoring of the area to ensure proper implementation of GRAP-II measures.
